We are so thankful that we were introduced to Asa and Meaghan two years ago when the need was great for our daughter to work through a serious traumatc event. Never underestimate the impact of a child witnessing a traumatic event and the impact it has under the surface, until one day it rears it's full impact deep and beyond, from sleepless nights, nightmares, eating issues and fear in daily life.
We live on a farm and we knew the traditional counseling route was one we weren't sure was a fit for her needs and quite honestly knew there were other options. After connecting with a few friends we were referred to Åsa and Meaghan and at the age of 9 our daughter was able to work through the ripple effects of witnessing a horrific and tragic accident that impacted so many peoples lives including hers. Her sleepless nights, fears of emergency response vehicles and horrible replayed dreams were met with care, kindness and the gentleness through therapy and a horse named Wizard. Together they worked hand to hoof to address her needs and as the weeks went on, a girl, a horse and a therapy team, improved the quality of her life with dramatic changes in a short time. She resumed sleeping with the comfort ever child should have when going to bed at a days end. She began talking more openly about the event she witnessed and her confidence to openly talk about her feelings grew with leaps and bounds.
Today, two years later, she is still working with the horse named Wizard but now as a confident, skilled rider and a riding team. Having completed the work she needed to resume her happy childhood she transitioned into weekly riding lessons, prepared and competed in a local horsemanship event and this spring hopes to begin competing in jumping events. We can't say enough about the growth of our daughter and her confidence with herself and the tools she gained to face life the good, the bad and the ugly. We are blessed to continue our relationship with the therapists/trainers at Institute for Equine Assisted Practices. I firmly believe people and horses cross paths for a reason. We are ever grateful for the gift Wizard gave to our daughter through an equine relationship that will last her a lifetime. We are very grateful for the competence of two great therapists skilled in the areas of trauma and equine therapy to have helped the journey of a young girl through and past trauma into confidence and happiness once again.
